The New York Jets are making a bold move to turn their luck around! In a surprising twist, they've appointed a Super Bowl-winning coach, Frank Reich, as their new offensive coordinator for the 2026 season. But is this the right call?
A Desperate Move After a Dismal Season
The Jets had a disappointing 2025 season, ending with a 3-14 record in head coach Aaron Glenn's debut year. This led to the firing of offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand in January, leaving a crucial role vacant.
Enter: The Super Bowl Champion Coach
ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news of Reich's hiring. The 64-year-old coach has an impressive resume, having won the Super Bowl in 2017 as the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator. He then went on to coach the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers, reaching the playoffs twice with the Colts.
But here's where it gets controversial: Reich's stint with the Panthers was short-lived and unsuccessful, resulting in a 1-10 record and his firing in 2023. This raises the question: is he the right person to revive the Jets' offense?
A Familiar Face Returns
Interestingly, Reich's connection to the Jets dates back 30 years when he played alongside Glenn. Now, they reunite, with Glenn praising Reich's 'rare combination of experience, creativity, and composure under pressure.'
Reich's extensive NFL experience, including 13 seasons as a quarterback, mostly with the Buffalo Bills, adds another layer to this story. He even spent a year with the Jets in 1996, starting seven games.
The Big Question: Can Reich Work His Magic?
As the Jets gear up for the new season, all eyes will be on Reich and his ability to transform the team's fortunes. Will his Super Bowl-winning strategies pay off, or will his recent struggles continue?
