Mark Ruffalo, known for his role as The Hulk, has recently addressed rumors circulating that Disney has terminated his contract due to his critical comments about President Trump and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
At the Golden Globes last month, Ruffalo, who also stars in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, made headlines when he condemned President Trump and the actions of ICE following the tragic death of Renee Nicole Good, who lost her life during an encounter with ICE agents in Minnesota on January 7.
In a statement to reporters, Ruffalo expressed his dismay, saying, "I’m not feeling so great. We have a woman, Renee Good, who was murdered last week." He did not hold back, labeling Trump’s immigration enforcement officers as "literal stormtroopers" and declaring, "[Trump] is a convicted felon, a convicted rapist. He’s a pedophile. He’s the worst human being." He emphasized the gravity of the situation by questioning, "If we’re relying on this guy’s morality for the most powerful country in the world, then we’re all in a lot of trouble."
Ruffalo's bold remarks naturally sparked significant backlash online, leading to unfounded claims on social media suggesting that Disney had dismissed him from his role. However, industry trade publications have remained silent regarding any such decision, which raises doubts about the veracity of these claims. In today’s age of rapid misinformation, many individuals have unfortunately taken these rumors at face value.
While promoting his upcoming film Crime 101, alongside co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry, Ruffalo faced direct inquiries about whether he had been officially let go by Disney. With a smile, he responded, "Not that I know of. People keep going like, 'Did you get fired?' Not that I know of!" Hemsworth chimed in, dismissing the rumor as nonsense, while Ruffalo reassured fans, "I'll be there as long as they'll have me. I have a good relationship with them. Who knows, there might be things I'm already doing that... [Laughs] I'm around, let me just say that."
It’s unclear if he was making a reference to Spider-Man: Brand New Day or the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, though he is confirmed for the former. His participation in Doomsday remains uncertain, but fans are hopeful he will reprise his role as The Hulk in Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for release next December.
Ruffalo has a history of being vocal about his political views, and it seems unlikely that Disney would sever ties with him over his outspoken nature, particularly as many studios aim to maintain an amicable relationship with the current administration.
The Russo Brothers are set to direct both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, based on a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with whom they have previously collaborated on the Avengers and Captain America films. Additionally, Michael Waldron, known for his work on Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, has joined the writing team.
With Avengers: Doomsday scheduled for release on December 18 and Avengers: Secret Wars expected to hit theaters on December 17, 2027, the anticipation continues to build for these upcoming Marvel installments.
